The 4th Sunday of Advent

Woodfield Team prayer. God our Father, you long to draw all people into your love; increase in number your church   throughout the Woodfield Team, deepen us as followers and learners of Christ and give us courage to share the good news of your kingdom. Collect for Sunday 19th December 2021 – The 4th  Sunday of Advent

Eternal God,

as Mary waited for the birth of your Son,

so we wait for his coming in glory;

bring us through the birth pangs of this present age

to see, with her, our great salvation

in Jesus Christ our Lord.

The New Testament Reading for 19th December 2021 – The 4th Sunday of Advent

Luke 1:39-45 - New International Version

Mary Visits Elizabeth

39 At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea, 40 where she entered Zechariah’s home and greeted Elizabeth. 41 When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. 42 In a loud voice she exclaimed: “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear! 43 But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? 44 As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. 45 Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her!”

Prayers for today:

  • Those we know, including ourselves, whose lives have been and continue to be turned upside down this year.
  • Dear Lord give us strength and courage to continue to wait for you this Advent.
  • All who will seek out our places of worship in December that they may encounter God and his blessings.
  • For the healing of our world: its people, its living creatures and its plant and sea life
  • For the people of the world who find themselves refugees with nothing to call their own
  • For the men and women of violence who seek their ends by bullet, bomb and knife to learn the way of peace
  • For the leaders of powerful nations for whom economic concerns and self-interest may militate against peace
  • For those parts of our world suffering the effects of natural disaster.
  • For Rick and the ministry team and wardens.
  • For our homes, our friends and families, our villages, our children and the businesses that support our communities.
  • For the 7 schools served by the Woodfield Team and for how we can engage with the schools
  • For those we know who are ill and for the recently bereaved
  • For our own healing of body, mind and spirit
  • For all pregnant mothers at this time.
